This project aimed to explore ways to incorporate embodied learning, a tool that integrates physical activity with academics, to increase physical activity among high school students, as most high schoolers are not meeting the recommended 60 minutes of activity per day.

Vast Lesson Libraries

Empowers teachers to effortlessly find subject-specific, state-standard-aligned lesson plans, saving time and reducing workload, and ensuring effective teaching. Contents in the lesson library can be filtered by subject or state standard. These filter options exist because 50% of the teachers said they would search for lessons based on their state's standards, since they need lesson plans that align with their state's specific standards. At the same time, some teachers prefer to search for lesson plans by subject because standards are looser in their area.

Easy Editing

A feature that empowers teachers to easily customize lesson plans, ensuring they meet their students' needs.

Collaboration

Empowers teachers to connect and share advice, helping each other create more engaging lesson plans.

Student Interest Driven

Evaluates students' interests and preferences to create engaging lesson plans. There is an initial survey which teachers use to connect with students and receive lessons based on classes' shared interests. There is also a survey conducted after a lesson to help teachers assess student enjoyment and decide whether to repeat a lesson.

Research

Students

I'm sitting for 90% of the day, just to go home and sit down to do my homework.

Current High School Student

Students recognized that they do not get enough activity. Several of them attributed this lack of activity to the sedentary nature and unengaging environment of high school, which leads to boredom, exhaustion, and decreased productivity.

Barriers

Unengaging Environment

Sedentary Behavior

Teachers

Recognizing that the sedentary classroom was the biggest barrier preventing high school students from being active, we focused our research on teachers. We found that teachers faced numerous barriers that prevented them from incorporating physical activity into the classroom.

Barriers

Limited Time

Limited Resources

Existing Tools

Using the biggest issues teachers faced, we analyzed existing products on the market and found an opportunity space for providing accessible teaching resources at the high school level.

Design Criteria

From these insights, we were able to craft our design criteria that would guide our ideation.

Final Concept

We generated over 100 sketches till we had four concepts that successfully met our design criteria. We took those concepts to high school teachers to get feedback on which one they would prefer. 7 out of 7 teachers we talked to stated that, based on our concepts, they would choose the website with lesson plans and a teacher network.
