I wanted to take wood, which is often solid and rigid, and manipulate it so it behaved like upholstery. I looked at existing ways of cutting wood and construction methods to achieve this.

Choosen Concept

The chosen concept is a chair with a walnut frame, featuring a seat and back made of tiles arranged in a checkerboard pattern. By stringing the tiles together, the seat and back will be able to flex with the user, providing optimal comfort.
